  • The Drive (named for Commercial Drive, but also known as Grandview) is about 10 minutes from downtown. The neighbourhood is a hip, older community with a diverse social and ethnic make-up. It has a mix of bohemian (some say "grungy") poets and artists in coffee shops, and Asian storekeepers and Italian restaurateurs ("Little Italy") along Commercial Drive. The area is well-served by the Broadway and Commercial Drive SkyTrain Stations.

    Homes

Housing has a mix of single-family homes and bungalows, with professionals' live/work studios closer to downtown. Around Broadway & Commercial Drive are older wooden homes (some divided into several rental units) and small townhomes and apartments ideal for families, single-parent families and low-income earners. There are also low- and high-rise apartments and newer condos along Commercial Drive. The community's hillside location gives many homes unobstructed mountain and downtown views.

Homes in Grandview run $500,000-950,000; with condos in the $450,000-700,000 range.

    Schools
There are lots of schools in the area (map). Post Secondary opportunities are abundant, with everything downtown close-by, and the major universities accessible by car or public transit.

    Shopping
The main shopping district in the community is Commercial Drive, with Asian and Italian shops and restaurants. There is also a south-Asian east European focus along West Broadway and East Broadway between Cambie and Main Streets. The nearest shopping malls are in the downtown area.

    Recreation
The neighbourhood's recreation is focused on John Hendry Park with its Trout Lake, and on the nearby False Creek. The area's closeness to Downtown gives it access to the bars, restaurants, sports venues, movie theatres and performing arts venues there. To the east are the attractions at Hastings Park, including Playland, Pacific Coliseum (a 2010 Winter Olympic venue), the Agridome, and the Hastings Racecourse.

    Schools
This neighbourhood is mature and has 9 elementary schools, two high schools and a public library. The community is not far from BCIT in Burnaby, Capilano College in North Vancouver.
