  • A pleasant, secluded seaside community located at the gateway to Howe Sound and a major BC Ferries terminal to Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast, and Bowen Island. The quaint town centre and waterfront promenade is complemented by a small marina, pretty parks and great views of the surrounding islands. The biggest challenge in living in this community is putting up with the constant flow of tourists, and listening to the foghorn blasts from the departing ferries.

Horseshoe Bay is a West Vancouver community of about 1,000 permanent residents. Situated right on the western tip of West Vancouver, at the entrance to Howe Sound, the village marks the western end of Trans-Canada Highway #1 on the British Columbia mainland (locally known as "The Upper Levels Highway"). And is accessible by Upper Levels Highway exits 1 &2.

Whytecliff is a pretty neighbourhood on a point that overlooks Howe Sound, where residents can watch the ferry come and go and a pretty neighbourhood park on the water. Glen Eagles is a seaside community away from the hustle and bustle of Horseshoe Bay, and probably best known for its golf course. Gleneagles is an interesting community, with most homes on the hillside between Marine Drive and the waterline. All have great views of the Strait of Georgia and Howe Sound.

To the east of the Gleneagles Golf Course is the community of Fisherman's Cove, where the homes are above Marine Drive, which here runs along the side of a cliff overlooking the cove and its marina. Eagle Harbour is a community built above and below Marine Drive, with some waterfront properties fronting on Fishermans Cove on the west or on Eagle Harbour to the east. There are a number of small islands just offshore.

    Homes
Hillside Homes in Horseshoe Bay Homes in Horseshoe Bay and Lions Bay run $600,000-1.6 million; with townhouses in the $400,000-700,000 range, and waterfront homes running 1.64 to 4.4 million.

Housing consists of character homes mixed with newer two-storey executive detached homes and some townhouses. The exclusive Lions Bay Village, is about 11 kilometers north of Horseshoe Bay on Highway 99. The rural waterfront community has impressive scenery, accompanied by above-average prices.

    Schools
West Vancouver provides elementary schools at Horseshoe Bay and at Lions Bay. Unfortunately, the secondary schools are a commute away. French immersion is available at Hollyburn Elementary (K-3), Pauline Johnson (4-6) and at Sentinel Secondary.

    Shopping
Best known for its ferry terminal, the pedestrian-friendly village of Horseshoe Bay is also known for its quaint cafés, seafood restaurants and boutiques, and the marina. The area is mostly residential, with light commercial zoning along the waterfront of Horseshoe Bay. The closest shopping is the Caulfeild Village Shopping Centre (Headland Drive & Upper Levels)., though the nearest large shopping mall is the Park Royal Shopping Centre, just before the Lions Gate Bridge.

    Recreation
Gleneagles Adventure Park beside Firehall The area is best known for its access to the BC ferries and access up the Sea To Sky Highway (99) to Whistler. Horseshoe By has not only its beautiful waterfront, but also Whytecliffe Park. Kids will enjoy the skatepark located beside the fire hall on Marine Drive. Golfers can go to Gleneagles Golf Course. Beautiful Bowen Island is only a 20 minute ferry ride. The closest skiing is at Cypress, literally, up the road.
