  • The small communities of Sunset Beach and Lions Bay lie along the Sea to Sky Highway #99 just north of Horseshoe Bay up Howe Sound, at the base of the Coast Mountain Range. These neighbourhoods have spectacular views of the ocean and the Gulf Islands, and provide access to mountain hiking trails up to the twin peaks of the Lions (which rise over 1600m or 5200 feet), sandy beaches, quiet marinas, golf courses north of Lions Bay, and easy access to first-rate skiing at Whistler Blackcomb. All this, and only 30 minutes from Vancouver.

    Recreation
Lion's Bay, Sunset Beach and Britannia Beach have a number of recreational opportunities: Golfing at Furry Creek, the BC Museum of Mining (a now-abandoned 1920s era copper mine), marinas at Sunset Beach and Lion's Bay give access to both sailing on Howe Sound and ocean kayaking along this scenic coast and out to Gamier Island and the Halkett Bay Marine Park. There are a number of hiking trails through Old Growth forests, including up to The Lions, and along several logging roads, and along Harvey Creek, and even east to Cypress Mountain. Rock climbing is nearby from a provincial campground at the base of Stawamus Chief Mountain near Squamish. The municipal town hall offers a number of recreational programs.

    Homes
These communities are mostly single-family detached homes and some duplexes with a very small number of apartments and townhouses. While some are pre-WWWII structures, about 40% are from the 1950s and 60s, and another 40% date to the 1970s ad 80s. Only 10% of homes were built since 1990.

    Shopping
Lion's Bay has limited local shopping, so for serious needs, locals head to the Caulfield Shopping Center in West Vancouver.
