These neighbourhoods are basically south of East Broadway down to East 41st Street between Nanaimo and Fraser. Cedar Cottage is between East Broadway and Kingsway, while Kensington lies south of Kingsway. This part of Vancouver is quite a multicultural community and the homes have great North Shore mountain views and the community includes Trout Lake, the only one in Vancouver. The neighbourhoods have attracted families and single-parent families who are assured by the proximity to Mount Saint Joseph's Hospital. Kingsway and Knight Street are the major thoroughfares in the area. Knight Street is an extremely busy truck route connecting the Port of Vancouver with Richmond's industrial area, and has a reputation for the number of traffic accidents. Homes The Kensington and Cedar Cottage neighbourhoods are a mix of houses built before 1960, with the bigger single family homes toward the south. There is a nice hill around East 37th Avenue & Knight Street where homes have great views of Burrard Inlet, the North Shore Mountains, and sometimes Downtown. Further north are mostly narrower older wooden homes, walk-up apartments; and social housing. Shopping The main shopping street in the neighbourhoods is Kingsway which cuts diagonally through the community, with this part featuring a collection of Korean stores and restaurants as well as the Collingwood-Kingsway Mall at East 41st Street.. Kingsway is also is the main route west into Vancouver's downtown or east to Burnaby's Metrotown Mall and shopping area. Recreation In the northeast corner of the community is Trout Lake in John Hendry Park, with community centre and ice arena. In the south is Kensington Park which is home to a community centre and indoor pool. Just to the west is Queen Elizabeth park with its Conservatory, Pitch & Putt, lawn bowling, , curling club, swimming pool and the Nat Bailey Stadium. Schools These neighbourhoods are served by 10 elemetnary schools and 3 secondary schools, and has 2 public libraries along Kingsway. The East Broadway area is full of post-secondary institutions, including BCIT's Great Northern Way campus, Vancouver Community College's King Edward campus.
