This community between Rathurn Rd and Bloor Street, between Islington Ave and Mimico Creek, is home to lots of parkland, the Islington Golf Club, and the historic shopping district along Dundas Street. Islington Village dates back to the early 1800's with Thomas Montgomery's Inn on the Humber River (now a museum) was a major stagecoach stop, which grew with nearby mills, stores, churches, a school and a post office along Dundas Street West. The local cemetery dates back to 1807. The community was named Islington for the England hometown of the wife of Thomas Montgomery. Schools The area has 2 public elementary schools, 1 Catholic elementary school, and a public high school. University of Toronto is easily accessible via the Bloor-Danforth subway, and Humber College Lakeshore Campus is accessed via the #44 Kipling bus Shopping The upscale and quaint Islington Village shopping district on Dundas Street offers a range of shops and restaurants. Around Dundas & Bloor (and the Kipling subway/GO station) are a number of shops, restaurants and professional services. For power shopping, residents head southwest to Sherway Gardens mall or the Big Box stores along The Queensway. Recreation 
The community has access to the Mimico Creek recreational pathways, tennis, baseball diamonds, and playground at Rosethorn Park, and a running track, indoor pool and indoor ice arena in neighbouring Riley Park. The private Islington Golf Club, running along Mimico Creek, was designed by golf course architect Stanley Thompson. The Montgomery's Inn museum is also host to festivals, and offers afternoon tea in its cosy tea room.
Homes Most of Islington's houses date back to the 1930s, 40s, and 50s, and have spacious mature lots. Older homes showcase a mix of Georgian, Colonial, English Cottage and Tudor styles. Homes around the Islington Golf Course were built in the 1960s and are a mix of Cape Cod-style, ranch style bungalows and split-level homes. There are also a number recently built custom-built homes.
