Peterborough lies on the Otonabee River at the edge of the Kawartha Lakes, 125 kilometres (78 mi) northeast of Toronto. The city of Peterborough, has a population of 75,000 with a total of 117,000 living in the surrounding area. Schools Peterborough has 30 elementary schools, 1 French elementary, 7 high schools and post-secondary students are served by Trent University and Sir Sandford Fleming College Shopping Peterborough has a number of shopping malls and quaint downtown shopping district. Recreation The town has a dozen marinas, several golf clubs, and is home to the Canadian Canoe Museum.
