Danforth Village is home to the popular shopping district along Danforth Avenue, "The Danforth") with shops and restaurants with a multicultural flavour. It lies along the route of the Bloor-Danforth subway line, providing great transit options for residents. The land north of Danforth was originally held by the Church of England, but the land to the south was once farmland. Danforth Avenue is named for Asa Danforth, the builder of the Kingston road in 1799. Danforth Village was annexed by Toronto in 1908, and in 1918 the Prince Edward Viaduct was built with a roadway and a submerged railbed, though the subway was not built through it until 1966. Just west of Victoria Park, and just south of Taylor Creek is Crescent Town, a model community of high-rises (now home to 10,000) built on land that was once the 240 acre farm owned by Walter Massey, son of the Canadian farming implement magnate. Danforth Avenue connects commuters to Bloor Street east o the Don River, and to the Don Valley Parkway, while Woodbine Ave quickly gets motorists into downtown via Lake Shore Boulevard. The community has excellent bus service connecting to the Bloor- Danforth subway stations at Greenwood, Coxwell, Woodbine, Main, and Victoria Park. The GO Train station at Danforth & Main zips transit riders to Union Station. Schools The area is served by 2 elementary schools, 2 Catholic elementary schools, 2 high schools, and 2 libraries. Centennial College's Warden Woods Campus is nearby, and University of Toronto is accessed via the Bloor-Danforth subway, and York University's Glendon Campus is to the north on Bayview Rd 
ShoppingAlong Danforth Avenue are many shops and restaurants, especially serving local Greek clientele. The Shoppers World mall (Victoria Park & Danforth) offers a range of discount retailers. Crescent Town also has its own shopping Market Place. Recreation The community is adjacent to Taylor Creek Park, and a nine kilometre paved recreational trail that extends into the Don River Valley. This nature trail is ideal for walking, jogging and cycling and includes many nice picnic spots. The community has an indoor pool, an outdoor pool, 2 running tracks, 4 tennis courts, 5 baseball diamonds, 1 ice arena, and several smaller parks with wading pools and playgrounds. There is also the Dentonia Golf Course I the Taylor Creek valley, just east of Victoria Park. The Crescent Town Club has a 25 metre swimming pool, an indoor track, a full size gym, with squash, racquetball and handball courts. Homes Most homes in the Danforth Village home date to the 1920s or 30s, and north of Danforth are typically semi-detached houses with front verandahs, and houses south of the Danforth are a mix of Victorian semi-detached, bungalows, or townhouses. Crescent Town contains a mix of low-rise and high-rise condominium & rental apartment buildings completed around 1970. Prices in this neighbourhood are in the low to low-medium price range.
