  • This community of modest homes lies south of Davenport Road, which extends from Bathurst west to Dufferin. Davenport Road was once a First Nations foot path between the Humber and Don Rivers, and was used by early French fur traders in the 1600s. The first settlers included John McGill, who named his house 'Davenport' (before street numbers), which gave the neighbourhood its name. It was a farming area until the Northern Railway built a line in 1861 just south of the community, attracting industry and workers to Davenport Village. In 1909, Davenport was annexed by the City of Toronto, which caused residential development to begin shortly. Today, the community has the TTC Hillcrest bus barns in the east buffering it from Bathurst.

Motorists are 15 minutes from downtown via Bathurst or Spadina, and not far from the Allen Expressway and Toronto's major highways. TTC bus riders can head east on Davenport or Dupont to the Dupont station (Yonge-University-Spadina subway line), or on Christie to the St Clair West station (Yonge-University-Spadina subway line), or head south on Bathurst or Spadina to the Bloor-Danforth subway line)
