The communities lie north of Bloor but south of the railway tracks, between Dufferin and Bathurst. These communities are close to downtown, transit and other amenities. The Dovercourt Park neighbourhood was first setting in the 1870s by poor British immigrants who first built tar and paper shacks until they could afford a real house (hence the area's nickname, "Shantytown"). When Dovercourt was annexed by Toronto, the area grew quickly and was built-out by 1923. Christie Pits is one of Toronto's most vibrant multicultural neighbourhoods, and has long been a first home for new Canadians. The neighbourhood is named after the former Christie Sand Pits (which were named for the founder of Toronto's Christie & Brown Cookie Company in 1861. The Pits were active into the early 1900s, but when the city annexed the area in 1909, it converted the quarry into a park, but the Christie Pits name stuck. Seaton Village was originally settled two soldiers who served under John Graves Simcoe in the Queens Rangers, an in the 1800s, the farms were acquired by George Crookshank. Seaton Village was laid out on the old Crookshank farm in the 1850s, and named for Lord Seaton, a former Lieutenant Governor of Canada, though residential development did not start until around 1888, after annexation by the City of Toronto. Access into downtown is via Bloor Street or Dufferin Street. TTC's Ossington or Dufferin subway stations on the Bloor-Danforth subway line adjoin the community. The Christie Street bus connects passengers to the St. Clair West station on the Yonge-University-Spadina subway line Schools The community is served by 7 elementary schools, 4 Catholic elementary schools, 2 public high schools, and 1 public library. De La Salle College is on Avenue Road at Farnham, George Brown College is just south of Davenport, St Michael's College is nearby at Bathurst & St Clair. University of Toronto and Ryerson University are accessed via the Yonge-University-Spadina subway. Shopping The diverse Bloorcourt Village shopping district is on Bloor Street West (Montrose Avenue to Dufferin Street), also on Bloor, between Bathurst and Christie is the Koreatown district. Bathurst also has shopping and restaurants. The Bloor & Bathurst Street area has many trendy restaurants, cafes and nightclubs for students at the nearby University of Toronto. Here you will find a wide variety of shops and services. There is the nearby 45 store Galleria Mall, (Dufferin & Dupont), and there is a large grocery store at Dupont & Christie. 
RecreationThis neighbourhood has the large Dovercourt Park, with playgrounds, wading pools, tennis courts, baseball diamond, sports fields, and outdoor ice rinks. The Christie Pits Park has a large baseball diamond, home field for the Toronto Maple Leafs Inter-County Baseball team, and outdoor pool & water slide, basketball courts, and playground. In winter, the park has an ice rink and toboggan hill. Just across Bloor, is Bickford Park, with two indoor pools. The Tarragon Theatre offers live theatre just east of Bathurst. Homes Seaton Village's housing is mostly 1890-1905 semi-detached Victorian style houses, with driveways and 100 year old trees. Christie Pits has smaller early 1905-1930 working class homes on narrow lots, with driveways. Dovercourt Park houses are moderately sized and date to between 1900 and 1923. Larger houses have been converted into multi-family homes to reduce the cost of home ownership. Street parking is tight but residents can get a modestly priced annual permit.
