Downtown Toronto is the area south of Bloor between Bay and Sherbourne Street, south as far as Shuter Street. This area has some early 1900s mansions along Jarvis and Sherburne, but is characterized by a large number of rental apartment buildings. The streets are named for important early Torontonians Residents can walk to downtown, and are minutes from the Lake Shore Boulevard and the Gardiner Expresswa. TTC buses on Wellesley and Carlton Streets connect to the Yonge-University-Spadina subway line, which runs the length of this neighbourhood. The Sherbourne Street bus connects to the Sherbourne station on the Bloor-Danforth subway line. 
SchoolsThe area is served by 1 elementary schools,1 Catholic elementary school, 1 high school, and 1 library. George Brown College, The Ontario College of Art & Design, University of Toronto and Ryerson University are nearby in downtown Toronto. Shopping Downtown residents the high fashion shops and designer boutiques on Bloor Street, and more trendy shops and restaurants on Church Street. The major shopping centre is the 300 store Eaton Centre, as well as the Yonge Street Strip. 
RecreationThis neighbourhood has a number of small formal parks and gardens, notably Allan Gardens with its Conservatory with six greenhouses. Moss Park has and arena and the John Innes Community Centre with an indoor swimming pool, a gym, a track, a weight room, a cardio training room, a games room, a woodworking shop and a craft room. There are also a number of multi-screen cinemas along on Yonge Street and to the south at Market Square. Homes The neighbourhood has a number of late 1800s Victorian houses, which today are either multi-family homes or commercial use, and townhouses built in the 1970s and 80s. The apartments in the neighbourhood range from 1920s walk-ups to high-rises from the 1950 and 60s.
