  • The Fairbank neighbourhood lies on both sides of Dufferin north of St Clair Ave, extending to just north of Eglinton, bounded on the west by the CN Rail line. The community includes the Prospect Cemetery which runs from St Clair to Eglinton. The community is named for an early farm of Matthew Parson, which he named "Fairbank". This rural area began urbanization in 1892, with the arrival of the Belt Line Railway, which accelerated with the 1924 arrival of the Toronto streetcar railway. The community has curvey streets navigating the area's hills.

Motorists can get downtown via Dufferin Street or head out of town via the Allen Expressway to Highway 401. TTC riders can take the Rogers Rd, Oakwood, and Dufferin buses to the Bloor-Danforth subway line, and the Eglinton Avenue and St Clair buses to stations on the Yonge-University-Spadina subway line.

    Schools
The community is served by 4 elementary schools, 1 middle school, 4 Catholic elementary schools, 2 high schools, and 2 public libraries. De La Salle College is on Avenue Road at Farnham, George Brown College is just south of Davenport, St Michael's College is nearby at Bathurst & St Clair. University of Toronto and Ryerson University are accessed via the Yonge-University-Spadina subway.

    Shopping
The community is well-served by retail districts along Dufferin Street, and the very multi-cultural Eglinton Avenue West shopping district.

    Recreation
The community has two large parks, Fairbanks Memorial Park just SE of Dufferin and Eglinton, and Earlscourt Park southwest of St Clair and Davenport. Fairbank Memorial Park has two baseball diamonds, a Playground, a basketball court, a swimming pool, and a Senior's Centre and a Cultural Centre. Earlscourt has an outdoor pool and a running track.

    Homes
The community has a mix of smaller pre-war workers homes, and post-ware brick and stuck bungalows and 2-storey homes. There are also several apartment buildings along the major throughfares. Home prices are in the low to low-medium price ranges.
