This neighbourhood just west of downtown, and close to the waterfront has a mix of residential and industrial usage. The residential area is centered around Stanley Park, with the popular Fort York historic site just south of the railway tracks. The Fort was built back in 1793, to defend the Town of York, and did its part in the Battle of York in the War of 1812, when the Toronto was sacked and burned by invading American forces. In the 1850s, the introduction of railways made the area an industrial centre, and housing for the factories' workers. The community is close to the Skydome, Exhibition Place, the Harbourfront, and the Toronto Islands. Motorists are just minutes from downtown, Lake Shore Boulevard and the Gardiner Expressway. The area is will served by streetcar service along Queen Street, King Street and Bathurst Street. Schools The area is served by 3 elementary schools, 2 Catholic elementary school, and 2 high schools. The Ontario College of Art & Design is adjacent, University of Toronto and Ryerson University are nearby in downtown Toronto. Shopping The Queen Street West shopping district, and along King Street have a range of retail and restaurants for local residents. Downtown shopping, including at Eaton Centre on Yonge is not far away. 
RecreationStanley Park, in the middle of the community and straddling King Street, has a community centre, 2 baseball diamonds, a basketball court, a soccer field, a children's playground & splash pool. The Fort York historical site on Garrison Road features a restored fort with historical interpreters in period costumes and a number of exhibits. Homes The area has many 1-storey cottages and Second Empire style houses dating to the 1870s and 80s, along with newer townhouses and urban lofts revitalizing the area's former industrial buildings.
