Riversdale - Saskatoon neighbourhood

Located just south west of downtown, Riversdale is when of the heavier populated areas for its size. Incorporated as a town in 1905, Riversdale was one of the three original settlements that merged to form the city of Saskatoon in 1906. The community had immigrants from central and eastern Europe, joined later by those from Britain, Germany, Ukraine and China. Saskatoon's Chinatown moved into the Riversdale district in early 1930s, and in recent years the area has received an influx of First Nations residents.

The area has four churches and a fire station. The luxury of the neighbourhood is the proximity to downtown (within walking distance), near to major venues and the Saskatoon Hospital, but with that comes the disadvantage of lack of convenient parking spots. The area also has some older houses that haven't been kept up to par.

Just to the south of Rverdale are the small and similarly older communities of King George and Holiday Park.

Schools

The community has one public elementary school.

Shopping

The shopping is excellent and convenient, with many interesting shops and boutiques in the 20th Street business district. The Saskatoon Farmers' Market, founded in 1975, moved into its present location at 19th Street and Avenue B in 2007. Other businesses are clustered between 19th and 22nd Streets closer to Idylwyld Drive. Saskatoon's largest two level mall (Midtown Plaza) within walking distance. There are many other places to shop downtown.

Recreation

There's a lot to do in neighbourhood including a curling club, tennis courts, an outdoor pool, Nordic skiing trails and relaxing 1 acre Victoria Park along the river. Just minutes away are the Ukrainian Museum, the Holiday Park Golf Course and many venues and attractions downtown.

Homes

Many homes in the area are over 75 years old, there built on 25 and 35 foot lots. Detached, semi-detached and apartments available. There also is the Riversdale House seniors housing complex, and the area has a new development in the River Landing project. Home prices average $120,000.
